On February 2, Montgomery County police detectives were called to the Children’s National Medical Center about a child, Hyunsu O’Callaghan, who was unresponsive and with multiple injuries, including trauma to the brain. Doctors told the detectives that the injuries indicated that the child had been recently beaten.
The victim’s adoptive father, Brian Patrick O’Callaghan, 36, of Damascus, did not explain to the doctors how the boy became injured, police said.
Hyunsu died the next day.
Detectives interviewed O’ Callaghan, who said he had complete care and custody of Hyunsu from January 31 through February 1. On February 1, he had driven Hyunsu, who was unresponsive, to the Shady Grove Adventist Emergency Center at Germantown. (The child was then transported to the Children’s National Medical Center).
